Did You Know…

  • In Greek mythology, Ajax was a hero of the Trojan War.  (To be exact, there were two Ajax characters: Ajax the Great, son of King Telamon and Periboea, and Ajax the Lesser, leader of a Greek tribe.)
  • A rabbit’s kick is its main defense mechanism and is powerful enough to break its own back.
  • Rabbits have 4 toes on each hind foot, and 5 toes on each front paw.  The extra toe on each front paw is called the dewclaw.
  • Ancient trumpets were more like bugles, used for signaling purposes, such as in battle.  During the Middle Ages and Renaissance, improvements were made in design and material by which trumpets could be used as musical instruments.
  • The American military band had its start in the fife-and-drum duos of the Revolutionary War; these were the only two types of musical instruments used by American military forces until the mid-late 19th century.
